Mina
mardrömmars stad
Headphones, digital audio player, wav file (16.16 min)
Mina mardrömmars stad (City of my nightmares), is a predetermined walk
accompanied by a text-sound
composition. The walk took place in Stockholm, and the route was down Drottninggatan,
starting at the southwest
corner of Observatorielunden, ending at Sergelstorg. It was recorded in one
take, on the exact same route as it later
was presented, with the voice actors walking along next to the binaural microphone
in the recording. Because the
sounds are taken from the exact same route as it is later presented, the sounds
from the private listening sphere
merge with the street noise at the time when it is presented, in a manner where
it is difficult to determine what is
what. The walk is loosely inspired by Per Anders Fogelström's novel Mina
drömmars stad (City of my dreams),
and the voice actors are Esteban Gonzalez,
Daniel Markusson and Erik Wallin. It
was presented in collaboration
with Public Surface Gallery, August 24 through
September 13, 2009.
